Your Poodle Care
When You buying a dog, there is many factors you have to take into consideration. You must take into account dog´s size, the amount of exercise, make a choice in accordance with your lifestyle etc...
A major considuation which many people overlook is the care that the dog´s coat demands. All dogs require regular brushing and combing, as well as care of nails, teeth, ears and eyes.
I think that it is very important that breeders explain to prospective buyers the care that the poodle will need. The ungroomed poodle will have many different problems for example skin problems and then the only solution may be to strip the coat right down to the skin. You must accept the responsibility for your poodle´s welfare from the time you make your choice.
COAT
The poodle´s coat does not shed, however it does keep growing. The poodle can be washed whenever you feel the need. Mine used to have a bath every six weeks, when being clipped. Just remember to keep shampoos well away from the eyes and inside of the ears. It is very important that you rinse the coat well. Do you think that you clip your poodle by yourself? I have learned to clip our poodles. If you have never done it before, trying to clip your poodle yourself is not as easy as you may think. But I am sure that practice makes perfect! Of course you can also take your poodle to the groomer.
TEETH
Puppies get their permanent teeth at six to seven months of age or older. It is better to introduce your puppy to teeth brushing at an early age, using a soft toothbrush and a canine toothpaste at least once a week! Dog´s teeth frequently accumulate tartar on the surface, particularly if they are fed only soft food. If tartar accumulated, it must be scraped off. Sometimes it is best to let your veterinarian regularly remove the tartar and polish the teeth under anesthetic.
EYES
Bath gently using a different piece of cotton wool for each eye to cleanse.
EARS
Poodles have hair growing inside their ears. This hair should be removed, before it grows too long and mats up and causing infections.
NAILS
Many house pets seldom get enough exercise and their nails do not receive the natural grinding which comes with a reasonable amount of outdoor activity. They have to be trimmed regularly using a pair of nail clippers. Great care must be taken not to cut the soft, fleshy area inside the nail called the quick, which contains the nerves and blood supply. It will bleed profusely it cut. If you do cause the nail to bleed, apply a nail blood-clotting solution
